Diffraction from apertures – often considered a detrimental effect that makes the beam size lager – can on the other hand also be used to focus light; of course, with a proper design of the aperture sizes and positions. The working principle is similar to that of a Fresnel zone plate: to engineer constructive interference using the diffracted light. In VirtualLab Fusion, we build up one such system with multiple apertures, demonstrate the focusing effects, and compare the results with the reference literature.
Focusing Electromagnetic Fields with Cascaded Circular Apertures
We demonstrate in VirtualLab Fusion the focusing of electromagnetic fields with apertures designed for the purpose.
Diffraction Patterns behind Different Apertures
With the advanced propagation technology in VirtualLab Fusion, we calculate the diffraction patterns for apertures with different shapes and study the property of diffraction.
